Islamabad, June 22, 2025: In a major relief for Pakistan’s working class, the government has significantly reduced the income tax rate from 5% to just 1% for individuals earning between Rs600,000 and Rs1.2 million annually.

This move will directly benefit those making Rs100,000 per month, reducing their tax burden from Rs5,000 to only Rs1,000—putting an extra Rs4,000 back into their monthly budget.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb made the announcement during the budget briefing, stating that the decision aims to combat inflationary pressure and increase disposable income for middle-income households already struggling with the rising cost of living.

The finance minister emphasized that this tax relief is part of a broader strategy to support purchasing power and drive consumer activity. “This is a pro-people budget focused on economic recovery and equity,” he said.

More Tax Relief for Higher Brackets

The tax cuts aren’t limited to middle-income earners. Relief measures have also been extended to higher income brackets, although details on those adjustments are expected to be released in the full budget document.

Solar Panel Tax Cut from 18% to 10%

In another significant policy shift, the proposed 18% tax on solar panels has been reduced to 10%, a move welcomed by both consumers and clean energy advocates. This reduction is expected to encourage more households and businesses to adopt renewable energy, lowering long-term electricity costs and helping Pakistan meet its climate targets.

Economic Impact

Experts believe these tax cuts could stimulate the economy by boosting consumption and investment, particularly in the retail and energy sectors. However, they also caution that the government will need to manage the revenue shortfall through improved tax collection and broadened tax base.

With these strategic changes, the government has taken a step toward economic relief and sustainability, offering hope to millions across the country.
