Deadly Overnight Barrage Hits Ukrainian Capital

12-year-old boy was among at least four people killed in Kyiv early Thursday as Russian forces launched a massive wave of missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, officials said .

The attacks began overnight Wednesday into Thursday, with multiple waves of missiles and drones targeting the capital and other major cities including Odesa and Dnipro . At least 45 people were injured in Kyiv alone, with 26 requiring hospitalization .

‘Drone Crashed into 18-Storey Building’

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko described scenes of devastation across multiple districts:

  • Podilskyi district: A Russian drone “literally crashed into an 18-story building, flying very low,” Klitschko said . Missile debris also struck the sixth floor of an apartment building .
  • Obolonskyi district: A large fire broke out, with four emergency medical workers injured while responding .
  • Rescues: Emergency teams pulled a mother and child alive from a building in central Kyiv where the ground floor was heavily damaged .

“As a result of the enemy attack, a 12-year-old child has been killed,” Klitschko wrote on Telegram .

The overnight barrage was among the most intense in recent months:

Ukraine’s air force reported intercepting 31 missiles and 636 drones over the past 24 hours . The attacks involved multiple waves using ground-based and air-launched missiles, as well as attack drones .

Odesa and Dnipro Also Hit Hard

In Odesa, seven people were killed and 11 injured after “several waves of missile and drone attacks” struck the southern port city .

In Dnipro, a missile strike set residential buildings ablaze, killing two people and injuring at least 27, with five in critical condition .

Zelenskyy Demands More Air Defenses

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, emphasizing the need for continued international support.

“Just over the past 24 hours, there were brutal attacks on Dnipro, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, Chernihiv, the Donetsk region, and Zaporizhzhia,” Zelenskyy said in a post on X .

He reiterated that cooperation to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses remains a priority. “We need air defense missiles every single day – every day the Russians continue their strikes on our cities,” he said .

New Morning Attack

Even as rescue operations continued from the overnight assault, Klitschko reported another attack on Kyiv early Thursday morning, with air defense units engaging enemy drones . An air raid alert remained in effect across multiple regions.
