Josh Inglis played a stunning match-winning knock, guiding Australia to a thrilling five-wicket victory over England in the fourth group-stage clash of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.

Inglis’ unbeaten 120 off 86 balls, featuring eight boundaries and six sixes, was the highlight of the chase as Australia successfully chased down England’s 351/8 with 15 balls to spare. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who remained calm under pressure, was instrumental in securing the win with an outstanding partnership with Alex Carey, who contributed 69 off 63 balls.

Early Setbacks and Recovery

Australia’s chase got off to a rocky start as they lost two quick wickets early on, with Travis Head (six) and Steve Smith (five) falling inside the first five overs. At 27/2, Australia was in a precarious position, but Marnus Labuschagne and Matthew Short stepped up to steady the ship. They put together a 95-run stand, with Labuschagne scoring 47 off 45 balls, and Short playing a brisk knock of 63 off 66 balls, hitting nine fours and one six.

However, both were dismissed in quick succession, leaving Australia needing a solid finish. That’s where Inglis and Carey delivered, as their 146-run partnership off just 116 balls shifted the momentum in Australia’s favor.

Inglis and Carey’s Match-Defining Partnership

Carey’s 69 runs were crucial in supporting Inglis’ dominant performance. However, the partnership was broken when Carey was dismissed by Brydon Carse in the 42nd over. Despite the loss of Carey, Inglis kept his composure and carried Australia to victory, supported by a crucial 70-run partnership with Glenn Maxwell, who remained unbeaten on 32 off 15 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes.

For England, the bowling attack was shared equally among their seamers and spinners, with Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Carse, Jofra Archer, and Mark Wood each picking up one wicket.

Duckett’s Stellar Knock Guides England’s Strong Total

Earlier, England posted a challenging total of 351/8 in their 50 overs, thanks to an impressive 165 from Ben Duckett. Duckett was the star for England, dominating the Australian bowlers and holding the innings together. His 165 off 143 balls included 17 fours and three sixes. Duckett was well supported by Joe Root (68) in a crucial third-wicket partnership, but the Australian bowlers fought back with key wickets at regular intervals.

Ben Dwarshuis was the standout bowler for Australia, taking three wickets for 66 runs in his 10 overs. Adam Zampa and Marnus Labuschagne picked up two wickets each, while Glenn Maxwell contributed with one wicket.
