Jesy Nelson, the former Little Mix star who announced she was expecting twins with her boyfriend Zion Foster in January 2025, shared an emotional update on her pregnancy, leaving fans concerned about the health of her babies. In a heartfelt video posted online, the 31-year-old artist opened up about the challenges she’s facing and the complications that come with carrying identical twins.
Sitting beside her partner Zion, Jesy began by expressing her excitement about the pregnancy. “As some of you may know, we are having twins, which is so exciting for us, and we just wanted to let you in on a bit of our journey of what we’ve been going through,” she said. However, she quickly transitioned to a more somber note, revealing that her pregnancy is not without serious challenges.
The Complications of Having Mono/Di Twins
Jesy shared that she is expecting identical twins, known as mono/di twins, a condition where the babies share the same placenta but are housed in separate amniotic sacs. While this type of twin pregnancy is relatively common, it comes with potential complications that can severely affect the health of the babies.

“Unfortunately, there are complications that come with having identical twins,” Jesy explained. “The type of twins we are having are called mono/di twins. Normally, most twins have two placentas, but when you have mono/di twins, it means your twins live off one placenta. This can lead to a number of problems, one of which is that one baby might take all the nutrients… which, it’s really awful to say, but could lead to both babies dying.”
This revelation has understandably left fans concerned about the wellbeing of Jesy’s unborn children. The complications that can arise in mono/di twin pregnancies, such as an imbalance in the distribution of nutrients, are serious, and the risks are often carefully monitored by doctors.
Jesy Nelson’s Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS) Diagnosis
Adding to the concern, Jesy shared that she is currently in the “pre-stage” of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a condition where one twin receives more blood flow than the other, further endangering both babies’ health. “At the moment, I am currently pre-stage TTTS,” she explained. “I am being monitored very closely, and I have to go and be scanned twice a week.”
Jesy’s doctors are keeping a close watch on her pregnancy, as the situation has been progressively worsening with each scan. Despite this, the couple is remaining hopeful and optimistic. “Every time I’ve gone it has gotten a little bit worse, but we are just hoping and praying for the best,” Jesy shared with her followers.
The emotional video concluded with Jesy acknowledging how difficult the journey has been. “We feel really blessed that we’ve been given twins, but it’s just really sad that unfortunately, it does come with its complications that we had no idea about,” she said.
Understanding Mono/Di Twins and TTTS
According to Healthline, mono/di twins occur when two identical babies develop with the same placenta but in separate amniotic sacs. This type of pregnancy happens in about one in every three twin pregnancies. While many mono/di twin pregnancies proceed without serious issues, complications such as TTTS can lead to severe health risks for both babies.
TTTS occurs when the blood flow between the two twins becomes unbalanced, with one twin receiving too much blood and the other receiving too little. If untreated, TTTS can be fatal for both babies, making close monitoring crucial.
