Lahore high court rejects petition to restore Punjab Assembly, imposes fine on petitioner
LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Lahore High Court today turned down a petition about the restoration of Punjab Assembly. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 on the petitioner for filing the petition.
Justice Shahid Kareem of the Lahore High Court dismissed the application. He termed the petition as inadmissible.

Petitioner claimed that the Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi dissolved the assembly without any reason.
LHC Judge Shahid Kareem asked from the lawyer that who filed the petition and the lawyer said petitioner is from Faisalabad and a political activist.
“What kind of application is this and it just wasted the court’s time,” Justice Shahid remarked.
On Jan 14, 2023, the Punjab Assembly dissolved after the Punjab Governor abstained from signing the dissolution advice of the chief minister.
Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi dissolved the assembly on the order of PTI chairman Imran Khan.
According to petitioner, chief minister did not mention any reason while dissolving the Punjab Assembly.
Therefore, he filed a petition in the Lahore High Court seeking restoration of the provincial assembly.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has been hearing the case of delay in elections in Punjab after the dissolution of the assembly, within 90 days as per the Constitution.
The apex court has given warning to the government of an action for failure in holding elections.
Earlier, a bench of the Supreme Court had ordered the government to hold elections in Punjab on May 14 according to the advice of the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi.
