Islamabad, July 12, 2025: The Punjab government will construct and bear the expenses of a 16-kilometre-long motorway, which will be built from Lahore to Raiwind.
Planning Ministry officials explained that the short motorway project is part of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
The National Hoighway Authority (NHA) official sources told APP that in the last fiscal year, Rs. 1,000 billion was spent under the PSDP and this year new 55 unapproved projects have been included which will require No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the Planning Commission.
An NHA document revealed that foreign aid was available for seven highway projects. The Islamic Development Bank will provide financial assistance for three sections of the M6 motorway, while two more sections will be built under public-private partnership.

On the other hand, Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Planning and Development Senator Quratulain Marri emphasised no new motorway should be built in Punjab until incomplete projects in other provinces are finished.
She challenged the reasoning behind the Lahore-Raiwind motorway questioning, “Are you building a motorway just for one house?”
