ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has lodged a corruption reference against PTI President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and his son Moonis Elahi.
NAB alleged accumulation of over Rs1 billion in kickbacks through favoritism in awarding contracts for development projects in Gujrat.
Following a thorough investigation, the NAB filed the case against Parvez Elahi and the other implicated party.
In the NAB’s submission, the father-son pair is the primary accused, accused of causing significant losses to the national treasury through illegal maneuvers.
According to the reference, Elahi senior misused his position, approving 116 development schemes for Gujrat and unlawfully pocketing kickbacks and bribes.
Allegations suggest Parvez and Moonis Elahi accepted bribes for steering contracts toward their favored contractors, with the kickback sums landing in Moonis Elahi’s and his family members’ bank accounts.
The reference urges the court to appropriately penalize the guilty parties, emphasizing Moonis Elahi’s recent status as a proclaimed offender in a money laundering case.
As per court directives, proceedings against Moonis have commenced, marked by advertisements across various locations declaring him as absconding and failing to appear in court.
Previously, an accountability court in Lahore had labeled Moonis as an absconder on November 13 for allegedly receiving billions in kickbacks from development projects. The NAB had accused him of embezzlement in various projects and sought to declare him a proclaimed offender on October 6 after evading arrest.
