Nawaz Sharif, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and ex-prime Minister, has reiterated his call for accountability of those responsible for his 2017 ouster and the subsequent troubles faced by Pakistan. During a PML-N parliamentary board meeting in Lahore, where he was joined by PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, Vice President Maryam Nawaz, and other leaders, Nawaz Sharif condemned the “bogus cases” filed against him and his family, calling for those responsible to be held accountable.
Sharif highlighted the long-lasting impact of these cases, noting that PML-N leaders were jailed under pretenses, and he only received justice after seven years. These cases stemmed from the Panama Papers revelations, leading to his disqualification as Prime Minister by the Supreme Court, which directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to file references against him. Although convicted in the Avenfield and Al-Aziza cases in 2018, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) recently overturned his Avenfield conviction, while his appeal in the Al-Azizia case is pending.

Returning to Pakistan after a four-year self-imposed exile in London, Nawaz expressed his commitment to govern and seek justice against those involved in corruption and political victimization. He referenced an alleged leaked audio conversation of former chief justice Saqib Nisar, which suggested a plot to keep PML-N leaders, including himself, imprisoned to benefit Imran Khan’s PTI in the 2018 elections.
Sharif criticized the PTI leadership, particularly over the NAB reference involving 190 million pounds, which he termed the “biggest scam” in Pakistan’s history. He accused the PTI of lacking moral and principled governance, particularly in their failure to realize their promise of creating a welfare state akin to Madinah.
