Islamabad, July 12, 2025: The launch of a new grading system for Matric (SSC) and Intermediate (HSC) exams all over Pakistan has been officially postponed by one year. The new rules will not be used in the 2025 Annual Exams and will now begin with the 2026 exam session.
An official notice has been issued to confirm this delay. Earlier, the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) had shared the updated method, followed by a notice from the Sindh government on October 15, 2024, mentioning that the changes would start from 2025.
But a recent notice from the Sindh Universities and Boards Department, referring to both the October 2024 and June 18, 2025 decisions, has now made it clear that the system will start from the Annual Exams 2026.
Important Points of the New Grading System
In the updated format:
- A++ (Outstanding): 95% to 100% marks, GPA 5.0
- A+ (Very Excellent): 90% to 94%
- A (Excellent): 85% to 89%
- B++ (Very Good): 80% to 84%
- B+ (Good): 75% to 79%
- B (Fairly Good): 70% to 74%
- C (Above Average): 60% to 69%
- D (Average): 50% to 59%
- E (Below Average): 40% to 49%
If a student gets less than 40%, they will not meet the passing level. But instead of using the word “fail,” the term “Unsatisfactory” will be used for such results.

Also, this grading method will first be used for Class 9 and Class 11 students, where their marks will be shown as Grade Points (GP). Later on, they will also get Grade Point Averages (GPA).
This new plan aims to improve Pakistan’s exam system by matching it with worldwide testing styles. It focuses more on detailed performance checking instead of only pass or fail results.
