High-Level Delegation Visits GHQ
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide called on Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Thursday, with the two sides discussing regional security, bilateral relations, and matters of mutual interest.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Eide led a high-level Norwegian delegation during the meeting. The discussions covered regional security, bilateral relations between Pakistan and Norway, and matters of mutual interest.
Pakistan’s Perspective on Global Peace
Field Marshal Munir shared Pakistan’s perspective on global peace and regional stability and underscored the importance of cooperation and collective efforts to address common security challenges, according to ISPR. The Norwegian foreign minister appreciated the professional role played by the Pakistan Armed Forces in promoting regional peace and stability.
Both sides reiterated their resolve to further strengthen bilateral ties and expand engagement in the defence and security domains.
First Visit by Norwegian FM in 10 Years
Eide is on a two-day visit to Pakistan, the first by a Norwegian foreign minister to the country in 10 years . Earlier on Thursday, he held delegation-level talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, during which the two sides discussed trade, investment, climate change, maritime affairs and education, besides regional and global developments .
The Norwegian foreign minister also praised Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability during the recent US-Iran conflict, according to the Foreign Office .
