Nuclear weapons in Gaza
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan strongly condemned a recent statement made by an Israeli minister regarding the possibility of using nuclear weapons in Gaza, where Israeli forces and Hamas have been engaged in a month-long conflict.
The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its dismay over the Israeli minister’s threat and described it as an alarming sign of potential ethnic cleansing and genocide.
The statement highlighted the need for the international community to recognize the threat posed by Israeli aggression to regional peace, security, and stability.
Israeli Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, a member of the far-right Otzma Yehudit party, had suggested that using a nuclear bomb in Gaza was an option in the ongoing conflict.
He also expressed opposition to providing humanitarian aid to the region, drawing a controversial comparison to the Nazis and suggesting that there were no uninvolved civilians in Gaza.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza, which began in response to Palestinian Group Hamas’ October 7 attacks, has resulted in a high number of casualties, with Israel accused of targeting civilian infrastructure and civilians while Hamas has also inflicted casualties on the Israeli side.
Several countries, including Honduras, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Jordan, and Bahrain, have taken diplomatic actions in response to the situation, including recalling their envoys from Israel and, in some cases, severing diplomatic ties due to the ongoing conflict and Israel’s longstanding blockade of Gaza.
