ISLAMABAD – June 9, 2025: Pakistanis are benefiting from some of the most affordable mobile data rates in the world, as the cost of 1 GB of data has dropped to just Rs. 27.0 during the first half of FY 2025. This marks a 65% reduction compared to Rs. 77.1 per GB in FY 2018, according to the Economic Survey 2024-25.

This significant price drop is the result of proactive regulatory reforms and a highly competitive broadband market, which have pushed Pakistan’s telecom prices to among the lowest globally. At a rate of just US$0.10 per GB, Pakistan now offers the cheapest mobile data in South Asia and ranks sixth globally for lowest mobile data costs.

Officials from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) highlighted that the consistent decline in data prices reflects their commitment to affordable, high-quality digital services, while also ensuring fair returns for telecom operators and investors.
The survey emphasized that the downward trend in mobile data costs is expected to further enhance digital inclusion, boost internet access, and support the country’s broader goal of a digitally connected economy.
As Pakistan continues to expand its digital infrastructure, the affordability of mobile data is likely to play a vital role in improving connectivity across urban and rural regions alike.
