Pakistan Braces for Temperature Plunge as Rain and Snowfall Sweep Northern Regions
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting significant temperature drops accompanied by rain, thunderstorms, and mountain snowfall across northern Pakistan from November 3 through November 5.
Westerly System Brings Weather Change
A westerly wave is expected to enter northern Pakistan on the night of November 3 and persist until November 5, marking a dramatic shift in weather patterns across the upper regions of the country.
Affected Areas and Expected Conditions
Widespread rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms are forecast for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Kurram, Orakzai, Hangu, Kohat, and Galliyat.
Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan: All districts of Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur, will experience similar conditions. Gilgit-Baltistan regions of Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, Ghanche, and Shigar are also expected to receive precipitation.
Central Punjab: Major cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Sargodha, Khushab, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, and Lahore will also experience rainfall.
Mountain Snowfall Expected
Snowfall is likely over mountainous regions, potentially transforming highland areas into winter landscapes and creating picturesque conditions for tourists while posing travel challenges.
Temperature Forecast
Day temperatures are expected to drop significantly during the wet spell, followed by further decreases in nighttime temperatures once the system passes.
Punjab Fog Conditions
Fog and smog currently affecting Punjab are likely to ease temporarily during the rainy period but may redevelop after weather conditions clear.
Safety Advisories
The PMD has cautioned that windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning could damage loose structures in exposed areas. Travelers and tourists are urged to exercise caution when visiting hilly regions due to potential slippery conditions.
Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities according to the weather forecast to minimize crop damage during the wet spell.
