Cloud Burst in Punjab

Karachi, July 22, 2025 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a three-day weather advisory for Karachi, predicting light rain or drizzle during the nighttime and early morning hours.

According to the PMD’s Warning Centre, cloudy skies will dominate, while daytime temperatures are expected to hover between 33°C and 35°C. Morning humidity levels may peak at 80%, dropping to about 65% by the evening, offering mild relief to residents.

Sea breezes will remain steady along the coastal belt, contributing to more comfortable weather conditions despite elevated humidity.

Light Rain Expected Across Lower Sindh Districts

As monsoon currents shift eastward, various districts in Lower Sindh are also likely to receive light rain or drizzles. These areas include:

  • Khairpur
  • Umerkot
  • Tharparkar
  • Mirpurkhas
  • Badin
  • Thatta
  • Sujawal
  • Jamshoro

While no heavy downpours are anticipated in these zones, localized showers may provide brief cooling effects during otherwise humid days.

Intense Monsoon Rainfall Continues in Northern, Central Regions

Elsewhere, the monsoon season remains in full force, particularly in northern and central Pakistan, where several areas have experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours:

  • Islamabad: 184 mm
  • Narowal & Muzaffarabad: 62 mm
  • Kotli: 57 mm
  • Rawalpindi: 54 mm
  • Murree: 42 mm

These figures reflect a highly erratic and intense pattern of precipitation, raising concerns about flash floods and waterlogging in vulnerable urban and semi-urban areas.

NDMA Issues Landslide Warning for Mountainous Areas

In response to the ongoing downpours, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an official landslide warning for northern mountainous regions. The advisory urges local authorities and residents to exercise extreme caution, particularly in landslide-prone or unstable areas.

Regions expected to receive continued moderate to heavy rainfall include:

  • Gilgit-Baltistan (Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Diamer, Ghanche)
  • Azad Jammu & Kashmir (Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Haveli, Bagh, Poonch)
  • Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Chitral, Dir, Kohistan)

The NDMA has warned of increased risks of landslides, mudslides, rockfalls, and ground erosion, especially along high-altitude roads and unpaved terrain.

Public Advisory: Travel Discouraged in Risk Zones

Authorities have strongly advised against travel through high-risk mountainous areas until weather conditions stabilize. Local administrations have been instructed to remain on high alert, prepare emergency shelters, and monitor vulnerable slopes and riverbanks.

Citizens living in remote or hilly regions are advised to:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel
  • Keep emergency kits and communication lines ready
  • Report early signs of ground movement to local authorities
  • Follow evacuation instructions if issued

Looking Ahead

With monsoon systems still active, further updates from the PMD and NDMA are expected in the coming days. The public is urged to stay tuned to official weather alerts and avoid reliance on unverified sources of information.
