PML-N, PPP, MQM, IPP and MQM announce to form coalition govt

110 In a significant political development, leading Pakistani parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N), the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P), the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), and the Balochistan Awami Party, have agreed to form a coalition government. This decision was reached during a meeting hosted by Muslim League (Q) leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain at his Islamabad residence, attended by prominent political figures such as Asif Zardari, Shehbaz Sharif, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Sadiq Sanjrani.

Reconciliation and Economic Agenda

Former President Asif Zardari, speaking to the media post-meeting, underscored the coalition’s desire for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to join the reconciliation process, highlighting the absence of ideological differences among the parties. Zardari emphasized the necessity for unity around an economic agenda to advance the country’s best interests, despite electoral differences. MQM-P’s Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui reaffirmed his support for Shehbaz Sharif, expressing confidence in the coalition’s ability to improve Pakistan’s situation. Sadiq Sanjrani also voiced his support, aligning with “Mian Sahib,” a reference to Shehbaz Sharif. The former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif remarked on the need to move beyond electoral hostilities towards parliamentary collaboration to bolster the economy.

Call for Economic Revival

Shehbaz Sharif, the President of PML-N, called for an end to personal conflicts and urged for collective, transformative measures to salvage the national economy. He invited all parties to support the Charter of Economy and the Charter of Democracy, aiming to leave past grievances behind and work together for the nation’s progress. This coalition formation follows the Election Commission of Pakistan’s notification of PML-N leaders’ electoral victories, marking a new chapter in Pakistan’s political landscape.
