PTI chief seeks exemption

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan applied for a one-day exemption from appearance in the court. The Anti-Terrorism Court of Lahore has reserved its decision on application of Imran Khan.

Imran Khan’s lawyer submitted the application in the case of vandalism and arson at the Lahore Corps Commander House on May 9.

The lawyer representing the petitioner pleaded that Imran Khan, the PTI chief, has been arrested. Lawyer Salman Safdar hoped that the court would suspend his client’s sentence within a week.

The ATC judge commented on the lawyer’s optimism about the appeal’s hearing and the potential suspension of Imran Khan’s sentence.

The lawyer stated that the PTI chief desires to attend court proceedings, but due to the current circumstances, he is unable to do so.

In response, Lawyer Burhan Moazzam requested the court to issue a protection order for the petitioner.

The judge inquired about the government’s stance on the matter.

Special Prosecutor Farhad Ali Shah asserted that the law was unambiguous and urged the judge to reject the bail application.

Barrister Safdar conveyed optimism about the imminent release of the PTI chairman, stating that his client has been consistently present in court.

PTI challenges Toshakhana case verdict

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) filed a petition with the Supreme Court, requesting the court to declare the Toshakhana case as “null and void.”

The party filed the petition under Article 184(2) of the Constitution, seeking a rehearing of the Toshakhana case. The ground for this request were that the PTI chief had not received a fair trial.

Earlier, the party filed a petition with the IHC. The petition requested the court to transfer Imran Khan to Adiala jail. The petitioner also sought A-Class facilities for Imran Khan.
