Rs 2 million compensation
LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has sanctioned Rs 2 million for each of the affected families in the Jaranwala rampage. It is a compensation for the losses incurred in the mob violence that occurred last week.
Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab announced that the government would provide cheques to the affected individuals within the next three days.
CM Naqvi demonstrated a rare display of solidarity with the Christian community. He chaired a cabinet meeting in a church for the first time in Punjab’s history.

Subsequently, he convened with members of the peace committee. The committee consists of scholars from various schools of thought and representatives of other religions. The peace committee met at Jamia Masjid Sabri in Jaranwala.
He also disclosed that Muslim scholars are willing to allow Christians to worship in mosques.

“I just concluded a meeting with the Peace Committee of Jaranwala. The religious leaders stated that Christians can utilize mosques for worship if they lack a place for worship,” said Naqvi.
“I consider this message from the peace committee to be very positive, It will contribute to calming the situation that arose after the tragedy on August 16,” added the CM.
The restoration work of damaged churches had commenced on Saturday. Two churches have already been fully restored.
“I also visited one of the completed churches undergoing rehabilitation,” he mentioned. Punjab CM added that certain churches had temporarily halted restoration work for design alterations and improvements.
Nevertheless, all necessary equipment will remain available, and rehabilitation work will recommence when the church management authorizes it.
He assured that the government will cover all expenses related to church rehabilitation.
