Islamabad, June 19, 2025: In a major push toward sustainable transport, the Punjab government has officially rolled out green number plates for electric vehicles across the province. This fresh initiative is aimed at promoting eco-conscious mobility and making electric vehicles (EVs) easily recognizable on the roads.

According to Additional Director General Ahmad Saeed, the newly introduced green-colored EV plates will now be mandatory for all electric vehicle owners. These plates will replace the traditional ones, offering a clear visual distinction between EVs and fuel-powered vehicles. Authorities hope this step will further cement the region’s commitment to climate-friendly policies.

So far, over 16,000 electric vehicles have been registered in Punjab. These include around 14,500 electric bikes, 1,461 electric cars, 36 electric rickshaws, and 31 electric buses. The numbers reflect a growing public shift toward greener alternatives.

Highlighting the government’s ongoing support, Ahmad Saeed also confirmed that the electric vehicle tax discount in Punjab will continue into the next financial year. EV owners currently enjoy a massive 95% rebate on registration and token tax—an incentive designed to ease the adoption of electric mobility.
