Islamabad, 6 May, 2025: PTV MD responsibilities have once again been entrusted to the federal Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, as the government has renewed the interim arrangement for another three months.

The official extension, confirmed through a notification by the Establishment Division, grants Ambreen Jan currently serving as Secretary Information and Broadcasting an additional term overseeing the affairs of Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC).

Her extended role as acting head of the state broadcaster will continue from 5 May 2025, or until a permanent appointment is finalised, whichever occurs first.

Ambreen Jan, a senior officer in grade 22, had previously taken charge of the ministry as Secretary-in-Charge. Upon her elevation to the highest civil service grade, she was formally designated as Secretary.

Alongside this position, she was earlier assigned temporary oversight of the PTV MD office for a three-month term, which has now been officially prolonged.

This continuation comes at a time when the federal government has yet to appoint a full-time head for PTVC, Pakistan’s national television network.

The delay in naming a regular incumbent has prompted authorities to maintain the current interim leadership to ensure operational continuity.

While no formal reasoning was offered for the delay in a permanent appointment, administrative sources indicate that the process remains under evaluation.

The extension is viewed as a procedural step aimed at avoiding a leadership vacuum in a key public communication institution.

The Pakistan Television Corporation plays a central role in disseminating state narratives and public service messaging.

In recent years, its leadership appointments have been closely scrutinised due to the broadcaster’s role in shaping media coverage and policy communication at the national level.

Under Ambreen Jan’s dual leadership, the Information Ministry and PTVC have been tasked with managing both policy communication and media oversight, particularly in a pre-budget and pre-election environment where state messaging is critical.

As the government continues its search for a regular appointment, the current extension is expected to ensure stable management of PTVC’s administrative and editorial operations without interruption.
