BANNU: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bannu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has implemented section 144 to ensure peace and order.
DC Shah Saud stated that a prohibition has been imposed on aerial firing and the public display of arms starting from today (Thursday) to December 3, coinciding with an ongoing anti-polio campaign.
The announcement follows a tragic incident on Wednesday when a police officer assigned to safeguard the polio vaccination team was martyred on Mundan Road in Bannu.
The officer, en route to duty for the anti-polio drive, was targeted by unidentified assailants.
Additionally, pillion riding and the use of tinted glasses in vehicles have been restricted, with the DC of Bannu warning of severe legal repercussions for any breaches of these regulations.
Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) grants district administration the authority to issue orders in the interest of public welfare, enabling them to impose bans on specific activities for designated periods.
Law enforcement agencies are responsible for enforcing these bans, with violations resulting in cases registered under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Section 188 entails a maximum penalty of six months’ imprisonment, a fine, or both for those found guilty of contravening the ban.
