Education Boards
The interim government of Sindh has recently taken decisive steps to restructure key positions within the province’s education boards. The decision involves the replacement of chairmen from three prominent education boards, namely the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), the Sindh Technical Board, and the Larkana Board.
The transformative actions don’t stop at the chairmen level; the interim government has issued directives for the dismissal of several high-ranking officials across various boards, including secretaries and controller examinations. Boards affected by these directives include BIEK, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, and Larkana. Audit officers from Larkana, Sukkur, Nawabshah, and the Board of Secondary Education Karachi have also faced changes in their positions.
Dr. Prof Naseem Memon, the former BIEK Chairman, has been appointed as the head of the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education Larkana (BISEL) until June 30, 2024. This move is part of a broader reshuffling that includes the removal of the interim controller of examination of BIEK, Zaheeruddin Bhutto, and Secretary BIEK, Kashif Siddiqui.
The intricate web of changes extends to various other officials, such as Sikandar Ali Miraj, who returns to his original position as Inspector of Instruction after being removed as the BISEL chairman. Nadeem Soomro, formerly the Controller of Examination of BISEL, has been instructed to report to the Human Settlement and Social Housing Department.
With numerous officials ousted from their positions, the interim provincial government is actively seeking permission from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to make new appointments. The emphasis lies on making permanent appointments to bolster the functionality of education boards across the province, indicating a comprehensive effort to bring about enduring reforms in Sindh’s education system.
