Sukkur IBA teacher gunned down over ‘honour enmity’ between two clans
SUKKUR/ISLAMABAD: A young teacher of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Sukkur was gunned down in a brute manner. The murder of Dr Mohammad Ajmal Sawand was an outcome of ‘honour enmity’ between two clans_ Sundrani and Sawand, police said.
IBA teacher Dr Sawand was travelling from his home town village, Shawli to Sukkur. When he was on his way to IBA Sukkur, the attackers opened indiscriminate fire at his car in Kandhkot area. Resultantly, Dr Ajmal Sawand died on the spot.
Police have conducted raids at various places to arrest the suspected killers of Dr Ajmal Sawand. Scores of armed people of the Sawand community and locals rushed to the spot and shifted the professor’s body to the taluka hospital.
Police handed over the body of Dr Ajmal to the family after a post-mortem examination. The funeral prayer was held in the evening in Society Area, Sukkur. Prof Sawand’s last rites were attended by teachers, students, government officials and people from all walks of life.
SSP Kandhkot Irfan Ali Samo told media that the dispute between the two clans started in 2022 in the wake of a clash on a matter of “honour”. Both groups, the Sundrani and Sawand clans, were at loggerheads ever since.
The dispute involved a girl from the Sundrani clan and a man from the Sawand community. In September 2022, the man of Sundrani clan was murdered after being declared ‘karo’.
However, the fate of the girl of Sawand clan who was declared ‘kari’, remained unclear. About four men and a woman from the Sundrani clan have lost their lives in the bloody brawl that occurred last year.
In an apparent move to escape reprisal, the group belonging to the Sawand clan abandoned their homes and fled the Shawli village soon after the last year’s clash, said the officer.
