Supreme Court quashes Chaudhry Sugar Mills case against Maryam Nawaz as NAB drops appeal

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan today quashed the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case against Maryam Nawaz. The three-member bench of the apex court took the decision.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Atta Bandial led the three-member bench that disposed of the NAB’s appeal against Maryam Nawaz. She is the Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

During the proceedings NAB asserted that the jurisdiction over this case no longer exists due to an amendment in the NAB rules.

In response, the CJP commented that the application has been dismissed based on the withdrawal of the appeal.

The NAB prosecutor suggested that the order sheet should state “disposed of” instead of using the term “dismissal.”

Consequently, the court resolved the matter by acknowledging the withdrawal of the appeal.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Dr Muhammad Faisal held a secret meeting with PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif in London. The meeting took place last week, but none of the two shared it on the media.

Also, the purpose is the High Commissioner’s meeting with Nawaz Sharif is also confidential, so far.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Office in Islamabad confirmed the meeting. The meeting took place ahead of the arrival of former premier Shehbaz Sharif in London.

The Foreign Office officials termed the meeting a courtesy call on the former prime minister.

Pakistani diplomats often meet high-profile Pakistanis abroad and it is a matter of routine.
