In a grave escalation of hostilities between South Asia’s two nuclear-armed neighbors, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday reported that 51 individuals, including 40 civilians and 11 personnel of the armed forces, were martyred in unprovoked Indian military strikes. The strikes took place during a recent confrontation along the Line of Control (LoC), marking one of the most significant flare-ups in recent years.

Unprovoked Attacks Result in Civilian and Military Losses

According to the ISPR, the Indian Armed Forces carried out what it described as “barbaric and dastardly” attacks on the night of May 6 and 7. These strikes were said to be indiscriminate, targeting not only military installations but also densely populated civilian areas in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Of the 40 civilian martyrs, 7 were women and 15 were children. An additional 121 civilians sustained injuries, including 10 women and 27 children, further amplifying the humanitarian toll of the aggression. The military wing condemned the targeting of innocent non-combatants, describing the strikes as a flagrant violation of international norms and human rights.

Military Casualties and Sacrifice

Alongside civilian losses, Pakistan also reported the martyrdom of 11 personnel from its armed forces, with 78 others wounded while defending the nation. The ISPR released the names of the fallen soldiers, recognizing their bravery and sacrifice as an enduring legacy of devotion to the homeland.

Pakistan Army Personnel Martyred:

  • Naik Abdul Rehman
  • Lance Naik Dilawar Khan
  • Lance Naik Ikramullah
  • Naik Waqar Khalid
  • Sepoy Muhammad Adeel Akbar
  • Sepoy Nisar

Pakistan Air Force Personnel Martyred:

  • Squadron Leader Usman Yousuf
  • Chief Technician Aurangzeb
  • Senior Technician Najeeb
  • Corporal Technician Farooq
  • Senior Technician Mubashir

These martyrs are hailed by the ISPR as national heroes whose names will remain etched in the annals of Pakistani history.

Pakistan’s Retaliation: Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos

In response to the aggression, the Pakistan Armed Forces launched a large-scale retaliatory operation codenamed “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos” under the broader strategic framework “Marka-e-Haq.” According to the ISPR, the operation was conducted with precision, focusing on military targets across several regions inside Indian-controlled territory.

Pakistan emphasized that its military response was measured, proportionate, and strictly defensive, aimed at deterring further aggression and protecting civilians. High-level military officials noted that any violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty will be met with full-spectrum retaliation.

Context of the Conflict: Rising Tensions Over IIOJK

Indian authorities claimed that their strikes targeted “terrorist infrastructure” in response to a deadly attack in Pahalgam, located in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The incident had heightened tensions in the region, leading to this latest episode of direct military confrontation.

Pakistan, however, refuted these claims, asserting that the Indian strikes were nothing short of deliberate acts of war, violating ceasefire agreements and undermining regional stability.

Ceasefire and International Mediation

After 87 intense hours of conflict, the two nations agreed to a ceasefire on May 10, following diplomatic intervention led by the United States. The truce brought a halt to the hostilities, although military readiness remains high on both sides amid continuing regional tensions.

ISPR reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to peace but warned that its restraint must not be misconstrued as weakness. “Let there be no ambiguity: any attempt to challenge Pakistan’s sovereignty or territorial integrity, ever again, shall be met with a swift, full-spectrum, and decisive response. Inshallah,” the statement concluded.

Nation Stands United in Mourning and Resolve

The Pakistani government, civil society, and the armed forces paid solemn tribute to the martyrs, holding special prayers and ceremonies across the country. The sacrifices made by civilians and military personnel alike have reignited a wave of patriotism and national unity.

The ISPR noted that the courage of the martyrs and the resilience of the injured stand as a testament to the unbreakable spirit of the Pakistani people in the face of aggression.
