A special prayer session will take place on Sunday afternoon at the historic Dhakeshwari National Temple, where members of the Hindu community will gather to pray for the swift recovery of ailing BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia. The initiative comes amid rising concern over her worsening health, which has prompted appeals from political, social, and religious groups alike.

The prayer event has been organised jointly by the Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad and the Mahanagar Sarbojonin Puja Committee, two of the leading Hindu religious bodies in the country. Their involvement underscores a message of communal harmony and compassion, as people from various backgrounds come together to wish for Khaleda Zia’s improved health.

On Saturday, the Puja Udjapon Parishad issued a statement expressing deep concern about the former prime minister’s deteriorating physical condition. The statement was signed by Sachindranath Baroi, the organisation’s office secretary, who highlighted the gravity of the situation and the need for collective prayers and support.

Leaders of both organisations also urged the authorities to ensure that Khaleda Zia receives the highest standard of medical care. Parishad President Basudev Dhar and General Secretary Santosh Sharma joined hands with Mahanagar Sarbojonin Puja Committee President Jayanta Kumar Dev and General Secretary Dr. Tapas Chandra Pal in calling for timely and comprehensive treatment for the BNP chief.

Their joint statement emphasised that proper medical attention is crucial at this stage, and they expressed hope that the government would prioritise her health above all else. “We pray for her quick recovery and well-being,” they said, offering spiritual solidarity during a difficult time for her family and supporters.

Khaleda Zia, one of Bangladesh’s most prominent political figures, has been battling serious health complications for years. As her condition continues to draw national attention, the announcement of a prayer gathering from the Hindu community highlights a rare moment of unity in the often-polarised political landscape of Bangladesh. The gesture has been widely appreciated across social and political circles.

The Dhakeshwari National Temple, being one of the most iconic religious sites in the country, serves as a symbolic location for such an event. The temple premises have long been a place for interfaith appeals, cultural gatherings, and special prayers, making it a fitting venue for this occasion of collective concern.

As the prayer session unfolds on Sunday, participants are expected to invoke blessings for Khaleda Zia’s health and strength. Organisers believe that spiritual support, combined with the best medical care, can aid in her recovery process.

This initiative also reflects an important message of humanity—reminding the nation that compassion and empathy must transcend political and ideological divides, especially in times of suffering.
