Tory Lanez, Canadian rapper gets 10-year sentence for shooting fellow musician megan

Tory Lanez, the Canadian rapper, received a 10-year prison sentence for shooting his fellow musician. The court punished him after a legal saga spanning more than seven months since his conviction.

On Tuesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Herriford issued the sentence to Lanez, aged 31. Judge found him guilty of three felonies. It included assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possessing a loaded, unregistered firearm, and negligently discharging a firearm.

Herriford remarked that reconciling the image of Lanez as a kind, charitable individual and devoted father.

Herriford stated, “Sometimes, individuals of good character engage in wrongful actions.”

He added, “Consequences follow actions, and there are no victors in this case.”

Megan Thee Stallion testified that Lanez shot at her feet from behind. He ordered her to dance as she walked away after departing a pool gathering in 2020. As a result of the incident, she had to undergo surgery to extract bullet fragments.

Megan Thee Stallion said, “Since the defendant callously shot me, I have not encountered a single day of tranquility.” The culmination of this trial marked the end of a dramatic legal proceeding. It sparked a cultural storm within the hip-hop community.

The trial brought forth various issues, including the hesitancy of Black victims to engage with law enforcement. It also included gender dynamics within hip-hop, the toxicity of online spaces and the protection of Black women.

She had to have surgery to remove bullet fragments.

“Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” Megan Thee Stallion said in a statement read by a prosecutor on Monday.
