The second season of Netflix’s hit basketball comedy “Running Point” dropped on April 23, and viewers are discovering the series is quietly stacked with unexpected celebrity cameos and surprise cast additions .

Leading the new faces is Ray Romano, who joins as Norm Stinson, the team’s unconventional new head coach replacing the previous character. Octavia Spencer makes a standout guest appearance as a civil rights attorney caught up in a team dispute, while Nicole Richie appears as a high-powered sponsor with personal ties to Kate Hudson’s character Isla Gordon .

Other surprise additions include Lisa Rinna and Scott Speedman, along with Ken Marino as a persistent courtside figure and Blake Anderson as a chaotic wildcard . The season also introduces Richa Moorjani as the team’s sharp accountant and Tommy Dewey as a rival executive .

Perhaps the most talked-about moment, however, comes in the form of a clever Easter egg. Brenda Song revealed that a flashback scene in Season 2 includes a reference to the 1991 film “My Girl”—which starred her real-life fiancĂ© Macaulay Culkin. In the scene, Song’s character Ally and Isla bond over crying together while watching the tearjerker .

“That was all the writers,” Song told Variety at the season premiere. She added that Culkin signed off on the joke just two days before release: “I’m like, ‘Babe, the show’s premiering next week. Sign off on it'” .

While Culkin made an on-screen cameo in Season 1, he appears this season only through the Easter egg. Song joked that her fiancĂ© “pitches himself every season,” but she reminds him, “Honey, this is my job” .
