Donkey Population in Pakistan Sees 100,000 Increase in One Year

Pakistan has witnessed a substantial increase in its livestock Donkey population in pakistan over the past year, according to newly released data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The latest figures reveal notable growth across several key livestock categories, including donkeys, buffaloes, sheep, and goats.

Donkey Population in Pakistan Grows by Over 100,000

One of the most eye-catching statistics is the increase in the country’s donkey population. In just one year, the number of donkeys in Pakistan rose by 109,000. This brings the total donkey population to 6.047 million, up from 5.938 million recorded the previous year. This increase reflects the continued reliance on donkeys as a means of transportation and labor in rural areas of Pakistan.

Buffalo Numbers Up by Over 1.3 Million

Buffaloes also registered a significant rise in population. The PBS data shows that the total number of buffaloes has climbed from 46.310 million to 47.688 million, an increase of 1.378 million. This growth is especially relevant for the country’s dairy and meat industries, where buffaloes play a vital role.

Sheep and Goats Show Strong Growth

The sheep population in Pakistan has increased by 388,000 over the past year, with the total figure now reaching 33.119 million, up from 32.731 million. Similarly, goats recorded the largest population surge among all livestock animals. Their numbers rose by a substantial 2.358 million, bringing the total to 89.393 million from 87.035 million.

The overall increase in livestock numbers highlights the sector’s importance to Pakistan’s agricultural economy. Livestock farming not only supports rural livelihoods but also plays a crucial role in meeting the country’s food security and export goals.
