Conflicting Accounts of the Cause of the Crash
Initial reports from firefighters suggested that the bus had blown a tire near the town of Lajinha, causing the driver to lose control and collide with a truck. Another vehicle then reportedly struck the bus from behind, though the passengers in that vehicle survived. However, later accounts indicated that witnesses described a landslide, where a large granite block collapsed onto the bus. Search and Rescue Efforts
Firefighters worked for several hours to extinguish the flames and remove victims from the wreckage. As of the latest reports, they have recovered 22 charred bodies from inside the bus. The operation is ongoing, and officials warn that the death toll may rise further. Thirteen survivors were rescued and sought medical attention, though many were injured.
