AJK assembly to elect new prime minister today after disqualification of Sardar Tanveer Ilyas
MUZAFFARABAD/ISLAMABAD: The Assembly of Azad Jammu and Kashmir will elect today the new Prime Minister of AJK after the disqualification of Sardar Tanveer Ilyas.
The AJK Assembly is holding a special session today to elect the leader of the House. Last week the High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir disqualified Sardar Tanveer Ilyas as Prime Minister and member of the assembly.
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas belonged to Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf. The PTI, however, could not nominate anyone for the Prime Minister post in Azad Jammu and Kashmir because of grouping in the party.

Many AJK assembly members have left PTI and joined the forward bloc.
President of AJK Sultan Mahmood is patronizing the forward block. Chaudhry Rasheed is the candidate of the forward bloc for the premiership.
On Friday, the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir rejected the plea to grant interim relief to Sardar Tanveer Ilyas. The AJK High Court disqualified AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas two days ago in a contempt of court case.
The lawyer of the disqualified AJK PM filed a plea in the Supreme Court
seeking interim relief for Sardar Tanveer Ilyas. The apex court of the AJK, nonetheless, upheld the disqualification
decision.
Meanwhile, Senior Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Khawaja Farooq Ahmed has been appointed as the interim Prime Minister of AJK after the disqualification of Sardar Tanveer Ilyas in contempt of court case.
AJK President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry signed a summary to appoint Khawaja Farooq Ahmed as the interim PM of AJK.
Khawaja Farooq Ahmed has officially assumed the role of interim Prime
Minister in AJK. AJK’s chief secretary stated this in a notification issued on
Wednesday. He will hand over the government to the newly-elected Prime Minister when he takes the oath.
