Islamabad, 7 May, 2025: Nokia  has announced today that Cybernet, Pakistan’s leading fiber broadband provider, has selected Nokia’s state-of-the-art optical transport solution for its new long-haul Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) network.

Designed to deliver 1.2 terabits per second (Tbps) per wavelength, this next-generation infrastructure will strengthen Cybernet’s national backbone. In its initial phase, the network will connect over 25 cities, providing more than 50 Tbps of long-distance capacity.

This deployment will support data center interconnections, enterprise and carrier networks, along with Cybernet’s premium consumer broadband service, StormFiber. Cybernet offers comprehensive connectivity solutions across Pakistan, catering to enterprise, corporate, and residential clients, while also providing carrier and transit services to international telecom operators.

To meet the rising data demands and build a terabit-scale network, Cybernet is utilizing Nokia’s 1830 GX platform, integrated with 1.2T ICE7 coherent optics. The new infrastructure will expand capacity through resilient, diverse routes, creating a high-speed, low-latency terrestrial backbone covering the entire country.

In addition to connecting cities and communities across Pakistan, the new backbone will also enable cross-border transit services for carriers and internet service providers in Central Asia. By offering scalable, high-capacity services at globally competitive rates, this initiative will drive Pakistan’s digital transformation and enhance regional connectivity.
