Dubai Police have issued an important public safety alert to residents across the emirate as adverse weather conditions are expected in the coming days. The warning was sent directly to mobile phones at around 9:05pm on Saturday, December 13, urging people to remain cautious and follow official safety guidance.
According to the alert, residents have been advised to avoid beaches, refrain from sailing or marine activities, stay clear of valleys and areas prone to flash floods, and exercise extra caution while driving. Authorities also stressed the importance of following instructions issued by official bodies as weather conditions evolve.
The warning comes amid forecasts from the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), which has released a five-day weather bulletin indicating generally cloudy conditions across the UAE. The forecast highlights the formation of convective clouds in several regions, which could lead to rainfall in the coming days.
Rain is expected in scattered areas of the country on Sunday, December 14, Tuesday, December 16, and Wednesday, December 17. Meanwhile, on Monday, December 15, there is a chance of rainfall over some coastal and northern areas of the UAE.
In recent years, convective cloud formations have frequently been associated with intense, localized weather events, including heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning. Such conditions increase the risk of water accumulation and flash flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and valleys.
Although Dubai Police have issued a precautionary alert, it is important to note that the National Center of Meteorology has not yet issued an official weather warning. However, authorities emphasized that conditions could change rapidly, and residents are urged to remain vigilant and prepared.
Officials reiterated that public safety alerts are issued as a preventive measure to minimize risks and ensure public awareness ahead of potential hazards. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel during rainfall, reduce speed on wet roads, and stay informed through official channels.
The alert was delivered through the UAE’s National Early Warning System, a nationwide platform that allows government entities to issue emergency and safety notifications directly to mobile phones. Agencies such as Dubai Police, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, and the Ministry of Health and Prevention use this system to communicate urgent information to the public.
The system operates via cellular broadcast technology, enabling alerts to be sent to all mobile devices within a specific geographic area. In this case, the message was targeted at individuals currently located in Dubai.
These alerts appear automatically on smartphones, regardless of whether the device uses Apple iOS or Android software, and do not require users to enable notifications manually in their phone settings.
Authorities have advised residents and visitors to remain cautious over the next few days, especially when near coastal areas or regions susceptible to flooding, and to prioritize safety as weather conditions develop.
