Islamabad, June 19, 2025: In a significant diplomatic move, the foreign ministers of Germany, France, and Britain are set to meet with their Iranian counterpart in Geneva this Friday to discuss Iran’s nuclear programme. A German diplomatic insider confirmed the talks, emphasizing the urgency triggered by the recent military escalations between Iran and Israel.
Prior to the main meeting, the European trio will confer with the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, at Germany’s mission in Geneva. The unified approach reflects Europe’s concern over a growing regional crisis that could spiral beyond control.
The talks are being held as part of a coordinated effort with the United States. The goal is to urge Tehran to offer verifiable guarantees that its nuclear programme will remain strictly for peaceful and civilian purposes. The structured diplomatic effort is expected to continue with technical discussions among nuclear experts from both sides.
The urgency comes after Israel conducted large-scale military strikes on Iranian targets last week. In retaliation, Iran launched multiple waves of missile attacks. While U.S. President Donald Trump has not declared any military involvement, Washington’s silence has added to global uncertainty.
Israel maintains its objective is to dismantle any Iranian capability to build nuclear weapons. Tehran continues to deny any intention to weaponize its nuclear technology.
Adding to the friction, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz supported Israel’s stance and warned Tehran of dire consequences if escalation continues. Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul urged Iran to reconsider its approach, saying, “It’s never too late to return to diplomacy.”
