Islamabad, June 20, 2025: In a major move to strengthen Digital Pakistan and bridge the digital divide, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in partnership with PTCL, Nayatel, Transworld, Cybernet, and Wateen, has rolled out a free WiFi hotspot program across select HEC-recognized universities — with special focus on women’s educational institutions.
Under this six-month initiative, students will enjoy free internet access at campus hotspots, aimed at promoting learning and research. The campaign is part of PTA’s broader vision to digitally empower the youth and ensure inclusive connectivity nationwide.
In addition to free WiFi, PTA has also announced a smartphone scheme for women. Around 200 locally assembled smartphones, provided by leading mobile manufacturers, will be distributed to female SIM card holders in Pakistan, AJK, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The selection will be conducted via a computerized ballot system to ensure transparency and fairness.
Marking a historic achievement in the telecom sector, PTA revealed that telecom subscribers in Pakistan have now crossed 200 million, with broadband users exceeding 125 million and FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) users reaching 15 million.
To celebrate this milestone, all users will receive 2GB of free data and 200 on-net minutes on June 20, 2025. Users can avail of this free offer by dialing *2200# from their mobile devices.
