The price of gold in Pakistan saw a modest decline on Monday, as the rate of 24-karat gold per tola decreased by Rs. 100, closing at Rs. 356,300, compared to Rs. 356,400 the previous day, according to the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewelers Association.

While the drop may appear small, it marks a continued downward trend that has persisted over the past several days in the local bullion market.

Cumulative Four-Day Loss Reaches Rs. 8,600 per Tola

Today’s Rs. 100 decline adds to the Rs. 8,500 per tola decrease recorded over the last three days of the previous week. With this, the total four-day decline now stands at Rs. 8,600 per tola — a significant loss for investors and jewelers alike.

This steep fall reflects both international price movements and local market dynamics, including fluctuations in the exchange rate and demand-supply shifts within Pakistan’s gold market.

Gold Rates per 10 Grams Also See a Dip

In addition to per tola rates, the price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold dropped by Rs. 85, settling at Rs. 305,470, down from Rs. 305,555.

The price of 10 grams of 22-karat gold — which is commonly used in jewelry across Pakistan — also declined, reaching Rs. 280,014.

These movements reflect the close correlation between per tola and gram-based pricing, especially in urban markets such as Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar, where Sarafa traders update prices daily based on global cues.

Silver Prices Remain Stable Despite Gold Volatility

While gold prices have fluctuated significantly, silver prices remained stable on Monday:

  • Per tola silver: Rs. 3,963
  • 10 grams silver: Rs. 3,397

This consistency in silver rates aligns with global market behavior, where silver is currently experiencing less volatility compared to gold.

International Gold Prices Also Show Slight Decline

On the international front, the price of gold dropped by $1, falling to $3,336 per ounce from $3,337.

Meanwhile, the price of international silver remained unchanged, closing at $38.14 per ounce.

The minor dip in global gold prices is largely attributed to:

  • Anticipation of interest rate decisions by the U.S. Federal Reserve
  • Shifts in investor appetite for safe-haven assets
  • Strengthening of the U.S. dollar index, which puts pressure on gold
  • Slight profit-taking by traders after recent highs

Market Reaction and Outlook for Investors

The continued drop in gold prices has sparked mixed reactions in Pakistan’s bullion and investment community.

  • Jewelers report a slight increase in buyer interest due to the recent price cuts.
  • Investors, particularly those holding gold as a hedge against inflation, are closely monitoring the trend to decide whether to hold, sell, or buy more.
  • Retail consumers may view this as a short-term buying opportunity, especially with the wedding season approaching in August and September.

Despite the temporary fall, gold continues to be a safe-haven asset in times of economic uncertainty and inflation — making it a critical part of personal investment portfolios in Pakistan.

Possible Reasons Behind Local Price Decline

Several factors could be influencing the decline in local gold prices:

  • Currency fluctuation: Slight recovery of the Pakistani Rupee against the USD can reduce import costs.
  • Lower domestic demand during the non-festive period.
  • Global market corrections in anticipation of economic data releases.
  • Speculative trading in the local sarafa markets causing price adjustments.

Analysts believe that if international prices remain under pressure and the PKR maintains its relative stability, local prices may continue to soften slightly in the coming days.

Conclusion: Monitor Market for Further Developments

The modest Rs. 100 drop in gold prices on Monday may seem minor on its own, but in the context of a broader four-day decline of Rs. 8,600 per tola, it reflects a downward trajectory that is worth monitoring closely.

For now, both traders and investors are advised to stay updated on international market trends, currency exchange fluctuations, and policy shifts, which collectively influence Pakistan’s gold prices.
