Karachi, August 8, 2025 – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday confirmed the provisional suspension of cricketer Haider Ali, following the initiation of a criminal investigation by Greater Manchester Police into an alleged incident that took place during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England.

The PCB stated that the suspension is being imposed as a precautionary measure and will remain in place until the investigation concludes and the facts are fully established.

UK Police Leading the Inquiry

The matter is currently being handled by the Greater Manchester Police in the United Kingdom. While the nature of the incident has not been disclosed publicly due to ongoing legal sensitivities, it is understood that the alleged episode occurred during the Shaheens’ stay in England earlier this summer.

The PCB emphasized its respect for the legal procedures of the UK and confirmed that it would not interfere in the proceedings, nor make further comments while the investigation is underway.

“The board acknowledges the seriousness of the matter and has acted in line with its policies,” the PCB said in an official statement.

Legal Support for Haider Ali

Reaffirming its duty of care, the PCB said it is ensuring that Haider Ali has access to appropriate legal representation throughout the course of the investigation.

“The board is committed to safeguarding the rights and welfare of its players, even in difficult circumstances,” it said, adding that any further action would be contingent on the findings of the legal proceedings.

Potential Disciplinary Action After Investigation

The PCB clarified that the provisional suspension does not preclude future disciplinary measures. Should the investigation result in evidence of misconduct, the board may invoke its Code of Conduct to take further action.

“The PCB reserves the right to initiate disciplinary proceedings once the legal process is complete and the facts are verified.”

Until then, the PCB has opted for a no-comment policy regarding the ongoing case, citing legal sensitivities and a commitment to due process.

Haider Ali’s Career So Far

Haider Ali, 24, made his international debut in 2020 and has since played two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 35 T20 Internationals (T20Is) for Pakistan. Known for his aggressive batting style, Haider was once regarded as a promising young talent in Pakistan’s batting lineup.

He was part of the Pakistan Shaheens squad — essentially the country’s ‘A’ team — that toured England earlier this year for a series of matches aimed at developing future national team players.

His suspension marks a significant setback in what had already been a turbulent international career, characterized by flashes of brilliance but marred by inconsistency and off-field issues.

No Further Comments Until Case Progresses

While speculation around the case continues to swirl on social media and in cricketing circles, the PCB has made it clear that no further updates will be shared until the official investigation reaches a conclusion.

The board reiterated that it will continue to monitor the situation closely, but any communication on the subject will be made through formal channels only.
