On Wednesday, Ismail Haniyeh, the senior political leader of Hamas, appealed for Pakistan’s intervention to halt the ongoing Israeli atrocities, praising the nation as brave.
Addressing the national dialogue on ‘The Sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Responsibility of the Muslim Ummah’ in Islamabad, Haniyeh suggested that if Israel faced resistance from Pakistan, the acts of cruelty could be brought to a halt.
Expressing optimism about Pakistan’s support, he lauded the country as a courageous land of mujahideen.
During the event organized by Majlis Ittehad-e-Ummah Pakistan, Haniyeh underscored the strong opposition to Israel among those who closely follow the Holy Quran.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, with Hamas initiating a comprehensive attack on Israel. In response, Israel launched a harsh ground and air assault in Gaza, resulting in the tragic deaths of over 16,200 people, predominantly women and children.
The head of the United Nations has issued a warning, anticipating a complete breakdown of public order in Gaza due to the dire conditions resulting from relentless Israeli bombardment.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in a letter to the president of the Security Council, emphasized the fast deterioration of humanitarian conditions, urging that such a catastrophic outcome must be avoided at all costs.
Despite efforts by global powers to bring Israel back to the negotiating table, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains adamant, ruling out talks with Hamas and expressing the intention to “wipe it out.”
In his address, Haniyeh condemned Israel’s actions, including the arrest of approximately 16,000 Palestinians and the desecration of holy sites, characterizing them as violations of international norms.
He expressed disappointment over the non-implementation of the Oslo Accords and cited an increase in the occupation of Palestinian territories.
