X to Launch New Original Content Rewards Programme Amid Copied Content Crackdown

Key Phrase: X Original Content Rewards Programme copied content

Meta Description: X introduces the Original Content Rewards Programme to replace its Ads Revenue Sharing model, cracking down on copied and low-quality content while rewarding genuine creators with a new payout system.

X Overhauls Creator Monetization with Original Content Focus

Social media platform X is set to crack down on copied, stolen, and low-quality content under a new revenue programme for creators worldwide . The new initiative, called the Original Content Rewards Programme, aims to encourage creators to produce original content while rewarding them financially .

According to a notification sent to creators, X will discontinue its existing Ads Revenue Sharing Programme on September 7, 2026 . Applications for the new programme will open from September 8, with the company stating that existing revenue-sharing participants must reapply under the new parameters .

X has clarified that users who have already completed identity verification and linked a payment method will not need to repeat the process. Eligible users will be able to check their status through Creator Studio at any time .

How the New Programme Works

Under the new system, creators earn payouts based on qualified impressions from Premium users viewing original content on the Home Timeline feed, where at least 50% of the post is visible . The company described its new incentive goal simply: “Reward creators who bring something new to X” .

To qualify for the programme, creators must meet these requirements :

  • Be 18+ years old
  • Hold an active X Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business subscription
  • Have at least 500 verified followers
  • Have at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days
  • Have an account in good standing with no history of repeated violations
  • Regularly post original content

What Counts as Original Content

The new programme defines original content as material that reflects the creator’s own voice, perspective, or expertise . Eligible content includes original writing, reporting, analysis, self-produced photos and videos, memes, illustrations, and commentary that adds meaningful perspective to existing conversations .

Content Disqualified from Monetization

X has clarified what will no longer be eligible for monetization :

  • Copied or stolen content: Work substantially reproduced from another creator
  • Re-uploaded content: Content downloaded from X or other platforms and reuploaded (unless the user is the author)
  • AI-generated or automated content: Posts created or posted using automated means
  • Engagement bait: Content repeatedly encouraging likes, reposts, replies, or follows solely to increase engagement
  • Monetization discussion: Content exclusively focused on maximizing payouts or monetization coaching
  • Misleading content: Posts containing disinformation or those flagged with a helpful Community Note

Background: Surge in Copied Content

The move comes after a surge in copied content on X following the launch of its monetisation programme in Pakistan and several other countries . A number of accounts began posting large volumes of videos and other content to generate revenue, while some users uploaded clips taken from live television broadcasts shortly after they aired .

The company had previously identified a network of 31 accounts operated by a user in Pakistan sharing AI-generated war videos to exploit the monetisation system . The new programme is expected to place greater emphasis on original content and discourage users from reposting or repackaging existing material solely for financial gain .
