Bank Al-Falah giving Rs2.18 billion assistance for flood-hit people, NBP announces Rs50 million

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Atif Bajwa, Chief Executive Officer of Bank Al-Falah Limited, Pakistan, said the bank would provide Rs2.18 billion assistance for flood relief measures in the country.

Talking to media in Karachi he said, “We have planned to spend a big portion of the planned contribution during the rehabilitation phase including the reconstruction of houses.”

Meanwhile, Rehmat Ali Hasnie, President and CEO of National Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan’s largest bank in size, announced a contribution of Rs50 million on behalf of the bank to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.

The NBP has also collaborated with TMF and the Rural Community Development Programme for the provision of water purifiers to the flood-stricken families to give them access to clean drinking water.

Furthermore, according to NDMA/PDMA data, at least 2 million housing units have been damaged which will be reconstructed at an estimated cost of Rs1 trillion, in rural and urban areas with the beginning of rehabilitation phase.

Sono Khangharani, CEO Thardeep Microfinance Foundation (TMF) stated this while addressing a press conference arranged by the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) on Wednesday.

He said the foundation has financed around 1,400 low-cost housing units over 10 to 12 years until the recent flash floods hit the country.
