KARACHI: The City Court in Karachi ordered the placement of under-training Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Umair Tariq Bajari in police custody on physical remand regarding the Orangi Town dacoity case.

During a hearing at Karachi’s judicial magistrate court following the registration of the case against the DSP and two Shaheen Force officials, the investigating officer requested physical remand for the implicated police officer connected to the robbery.

After considering arguments from both sides, the court sanctioned a one-day physical remand for DSP Umair Tariq Bajari under police custody.

Additionally, the investigation officer was directed to present a progress report during the next hearing.

The case unfolded when DSP Umair Tariq Bajari, along with Khurram, Farman, and 20 others, faced charges of dacoity and kidnapping filed by affected businessman Shakir Khan in the Orangi Town heist case.

As per the filed FIR, Shakir Khan, engaged in wholesale trade of sanitary items in Orangi Town, recounted an incident involving approximately 20 officers, both uniformed and in plain clothes, who raided his residence around 2:20 am on November 19.

Subsequently, the officers, having held the family members captive, absconded with Rs20 million, 70 to 80 tola gold, laptops, and mobile phones.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Riffat Mukhtar Raja, took action on Thursday by suspending DSP Umair Tariq Bajari following an investigation that revealed his involvement in a robbery during a recent raid on a trader’s residence in Orangi Town in Karachi.

This action stemmed from a notification issued where Bajari, an officer in training, was suspended after being implicated in the Orangi Town heist case.

The charges against him included dacoity and kidnapping, filed by the affected businessman, Shakir Khan.

According to the filed FIR, Shakir Khan said the officers held his family members captive.

The FIR detailed that after holding Khan and his brother Aamir captive, along with the valuables, the officers left them near Baloch Pull after seizing the cash, gold, and other possessions.

Subsequently, the SHO of the Defence police station returned Rs10.3 million, 50 tola gold, and 12 mobile phones to Khan, as mentioned in his formal complaint.

Khan has urged higher authorities to take strict action against DSP Bajari and the involved staff based on these events.
