Humza yousaf, first Muslim to head Scotland government

Humza Yousaf will be the first Muslim to lead the government in Scotland. On Tuesday, the parliament in Scotland confirmed that Humza Yousaf will replace Nicola Sturgeon as first minister.

Thus, he will be the devolved nation’s youngest and the first Muslim leader of a government in western Europe.

Humza Yousaf, 37, won a Scottish National Party (SNP) leadership battle with a narrow margin. He vowed to rejuvenate the stalled pursuit of independence for Scotland.

On Wednesday (March 29), Yousaf will be sworn in as the new head of the Scotland government.

In the tweet above, Yousaf is leading a prayer while ending fast. In another picture, he is sitting with his parents, wife and kid.

He said, “My family and I spending our first night in Bute House after today’s parliamentary vote. A special moment leading my family in prayer in Bute House as is customary after breaking fast together.”

Before voting, he said he had “some very big shoes to fill” succeeding Sturgeon. He also vowed to “continue to ensure that Scotland is a positive, progressive voice on the world stage”.

“I will also argue vigorously for independence,” he added afterwards, pledging in the meantime “to make the best possible use of this parliament’s existing powers”.
