On Friday, Sher Afzal Marwat, the Senior Vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), claimed that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police attempted to detain him.

Marwat, heading to Gulabad near Chakdara for a PTI convention in Bajaur scheduled for Saturday, took to social media to describe the incident. He claimed to have narrowly escaped an alleged abduction by approximately 300 police officers.

In his statement, Marwat rallied PTI workers to participate in the Bajaur convention, stressing the importance of their commitment to a better Pakistan. He expressed his determination to resist those he accused of oppressing PTI’s leader, Imran Khan, and the Pakistani populace at large.

This incident follows previous allegations by PTI of Marwat’s arrest en route to Bajaur, which had sparked protests and led to the blockade of Chakdara Road. The party has been vocal in its opposition to the current administration.

Additionally, Marwat has been a subject of legal scrutiny. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against him and other PTI workers for organizing a convention in Swabi the previous Saturday. They were charged with violating Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code 1898, which prohibits unlawful gatherings of more than five people.

Marwat has previously sought legal protection, securing bail from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in two separate cases. One case, filed in K-P in October, accused him of inciting the public against state institutions via social media. Another instance of conflict between PTI supporters and authorities occurred in August when over 90 PTI workers were detained across various districts of K-P for rallying against the detention of Imran Khan, the party’s founding chairman.
