Owner and Operator of Chairlift
ISLAMABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police arrested the owner and operator of the cable car in Battagram on Wednesday in the wake of a mishap.
Eight individuals, including six school-children, were trapped in a chairlift when two of the three cables got damaged.
The police on Wednesday registered an FIR against the cable car owner Gul Zarin and operator Ejaz at Allai Police Station in Battagram. They also sealed the control room of the cable car, known locally as dolly.
Police arrested the owner and operator of the chairlift for bad condition and poor maintenance of the cable car. It caused a mishap on Tuesday that put at risk the lives of eight individuals.
Fortunately, Pakistan Army’s SSG commandoes and local experts in chairlift operations rescued all the stranded passengers safely. The rescue operation lasted for almost 12 hours. It was one of the riskiest and most delicate rescue operations.
The efforts of the Pak Army’s soldiers, local experts, and prayers of the nation led to a successful rescue operation above the clouds _ 600 feet high.
KP Govt orders inspection of all chairlifts
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government ordered a comprehensive inspection and safety audit of all chairlifts. The government took the decision in the wake of recent cable car incident in Battagram.
The government issued instructions to all deputy commissioners in KP, asking them to conduct safety audits of chairlifts within their jurisdictions.

Sahib Khan has become a social media hero on Wednesday. He is a civilian and an expert in chairlifts who played a key role in the successful rescue of stranded children.
Sahib Khan assisted the army officials and the SSG commandos in safe rescue of the stranded students through ground operations. The rescue teams initiated ground operations after sunset with the help of civilian experts especially Sahib Khan.

The military’s helicopters launched the rescue operation on Tuesday noon when videos and messages of stranded individuals hit the media.
