Islamabad Demands Transparent Investigation
Pakistan said the incident raised serious human rights concerns, particularly regarding the right to life and the protection of civilians under international law.
Islamabad called on India to conduct an immediate, transparent and credible investigation and take appropriate legal and disciplinary action against anyone found responsible.
Pakistan also demanded that India formally share the investigation’s findings and details of any action taken with the Pakistani government.
The Foreign Office urged India to respect international law and fundamental human rights, comply with relevant bilateral arrangements and established border procedures, and exercise maximum restraint.
It also called for effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Two Civilians Reportedly Killed Near Kasur
According to security sources, two unarmed Pakistani civilians were killed and a third person injured in alleged BSF firing near the Pakistan-India border in Kasur a day before Pakistan lodged its protest.
The sources said three residents of Ladhar village had moved a few steps beyond a border pillar when Indian personnel allegedly opened fire without warning.
They maintained that the men were unarmed and had not attempted to cross the border fence.
The deceased were identified as Azmat Rasool, son of Ataullah, and Mohsin Jutt, both residents of Jattan Wali Haveli in Ladhar. A third man sustained injuries, according to the sources.
The sources described the shooting as unprovoked and alleged that it violated the border agreement and established standard operating procedures.
Indian media reports, meanwhile, described the three Pakistanis as infiltrators. Pakistani security sources disputed that account, saying the men had not attempted to cross the border fence.
Pakistan-India Tensions Continue
The latest incident came a day after Islamabad challenged Indian reports claiming that Pakistani forces had killed a former Pakistani soldier allegedly associated with a militant group in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Pakistan’s military presented the soldier alive at a news conference, disputing the reports.
The developments come less than 18 months after Pakistan and India experienced their most serious military confrontation in years.
Background: Pahalgam Attack and Military Confrontation
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours escalated following an April 2025 attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people.
India accused Pakistan of supporting the attackers and launched strikes inside Pakistan the following month. Islamabad denied involvement and responded militarily.
Pakistan said its forces brought down seven Indian fighter jets during the confrontation. Four days of fighting ended after a ceasefire was agreed.
The latest border incident has added to tensions between the two countries, with Pakistan calling for an investigation into the civilian deaths and measures to prevent similar incidents.
