ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans to organize a public rally in Islamabad on the occasion of Pakistan Day, scheduled for March 23.
Sher Afzal Marwat, a prominent leader of PTI, addressed the party’s protest demonstration in Islamabad, affirming their intention to formally request permission from the Deputy Commissioner of the capital city for the gathering.
Marwat declared that should their request be denied, PTI would pursue legal recourse by approaching the Islamabad High Court, asserting their constitutional right to conduct peaceful protests.
Marwat further urged authorities to release PTI leaders and activists who had been detained during the party’s nationwide protests on the previous Sunday.
Notably, earlier on the same day, PTI leaders Salman Akram Raja and Sardar Latif Khosa were arrested amidst the protests, which were staged across various cities, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, and Kandhkot.
A spokesperson for PTI expressed vehement opposition to what they perceive as election rigging during the general elections held on February 8, emphasizing that the nation rejects the installation of individuals deemed as “proven, most corrupt” as the country’s president and prime minister against the popular will.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is set to organize rallies across the country on Sunday to protest against alleged rigging in the general elections. The party plans to conduct processions in multiple cities, with a major rally scheduled in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur addressed the media from the rally site on the eve of the protest, assuring that the party’s demonstration would remain peaceful. However, he reiterated the PTI’s grievances regarding pre-poll and poll-day rigging, emphasizing that even foreign observers had not accepted the election results.
Gandapur underscored the party’s demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja. The chief minister expressed dissatisfaction with the election process and outcomes, echoing the PTI’s stance on the alleged irregularities.
Gandapur announced that he would not attend the oath-taking ceremony of the president. It’s noteworthy that he had also skipped the oath-taking ceremony for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
