Islamabad, June 19, 2025: Sindh has recorded its first death from the Congo virus this year after a 42-year-old man passed away in Karachi. The patient, who lived in District Malir, was taken to Indus Hospital in Korangi on June 16 after being diagnosed with the virus. He died from the infection the next day.

A representative from the provincial health department stated that the deceased had not travelled recently, indicating that the virus was likely contracted locally. The Congo virus is a dangerous viral infection mainly spread through tick bites or by coming into contact with the blood and tissues of infected animals, especially during or right after their slaughter.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the disease has a mortality rate ranging between 10 to 40 percent, and no vaccine is currently available. Back in April, the National Institute of Health (NIH) had released an advisory recommending precautionary steps in advance of Eidul Azha, a period that sees increased movement of animals meant for sacrifice.
