LAHORE: Afnan Shafqat, a teenager involved in a fatal road collision in Phase VII of the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), is seeking bail on Saturday.
During the bail petition hearing at the sessions court, the defense requested the accused’s release, emphasizing that the incident was an accident and highlighting the accused’s status as an underage individual.
The court has requested the case records from the police, where the defense lawyer argued that while the FIR includes clauses of the anti-terrorism law, the accused should be granted bail, considering their age and the nature of the incident as an unintended mishap.
However, the complainant’s counsel argued for the case to be transferred to the anti-terrorism court for bail consideration and urged the dismissal of Afnan’s bail plea.
Earlier details revealed that Afnan Shafqat allegedly drove his car into the victims’ family’s vehicle intentionally, resulting in the tragic loss of six family members, including Rukhsana Bibi (45), Husnain (25), Ayesha (23), Sajjad (30), four-month-old Huzaifa, and four-year-old Anaya, right after the family’s arrival at DHA Phase VII.
Afnan was found alone in his car after the collision, rescued by bystanders, and subsequently handed over to the police. He was then remanded in judicial custody by the judicial magistrate at Cantonment Courts on Wednesday.
