ANKARA: President Ebrahim Raisi, in a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, expressed his belief that the United Nations has lost its effectiveness in addressing the Gaza war, being sidelined amid Israel’s alarming actions.

The ongoing genocidal campaign by Israel in the besieged Gaza Strip has garnered global shock, with the United States impeding efforts at the United Nations Security Council to press Israel to cease its massacre of Palestinians in Gaza.

Describing the Israeli war on Gaza, now in its fourth month, as a genocide, Raisi highlighted the relentless bombardment by Israel, resulting in the tragic death of 25,700 individuals, predominantly children and women.

Additionally, Israel’s deliberate deprivation of the 2.3 million population in the coastal enclave has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis.

President Raisi emphasized the concern of Muslim nations and conscientious people worldwide over the crimes committed against Palestinians. He declared the issue of Palestine as the primary concern for both the Islamic world and the international community.

Iran has consistently criticized Western, particularly U.S., support for Israel in its brutal war on Gaza, condemning the crimes committed with such backing. Raisi lamented the tragic reality that the United States, through its official support, is effectively implicated in these crimes.

He expressed disappointment in the diminished efficacy of international bodies, including the United Nations, in preventing these well-documented crimes.

President Raisi proposed that severing economic and political ties with Israel could compel the regime to halt its atrocities in Gaza.

He stressed the importance of countries with ties to Israel taking this step, believing it to be a powerful means of ending oppression and crimes committed by the Israeli government.

During talks with President Erdogan, Raisi underscored the shared commitment of Iran and Turkey to support Palestine and the Islamic resistance against Israel’s injustices.

He reiterated the necessity for Israel to end its occupation, cease oppression against the Palestinian people, and provide compensation for decades of pillage and murder, emphasizing that the continuation of such crimes must be halted for justice to prevail.
