In a related development, officials confirmed that the Karachi Port Trust’s (KPT) official account on X (formerly Twitter) had been compromised, allegedly by Indian actors.

The port’s media office indicated that misleading statements were published through the hacked account in an attempt to spread misinformation and create unrest.

The KPT administration advised media outlets and the public to avoid amplifying unverified information being circulated online.

A spokesperson emphasized that any news concerning the port’s operations should be cross-checked with the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of KPT before being reported or shared.

“We urge the public to remain calm and disregard fabricated claims designed to mislead and incite concern,” the spokesperson stated, reiterating that the port is operating under standard safety protocols without any cause for alarm.

Authorities have launched an internal review to assess the breach of the official communication channel and are working with cybercrime units to restore the compromised social media account. Meanwhile, efforts are being made to trace the source of the misinformation campaign.

The Karachi Port Trust underscored that accurate and verified updates will only be shared through their authorized communication channels, urging stakeholders to remain vigilant and not fall prey to rumours.

This incident highlights growing concerns over cybersecurity and information warfare, particularly during periods of heightened geopolitical tension between Pakistan and India.
