Billionaire property tycoon Malik Riaz Hussain on Tuesday issued a dire warning, stating that Bahria Town may soon be completely shut down across Pakistan due to a mounting crackdown by authorities. In a detailed post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the real estate magnate said that the company is on the brink of collapse, blaming the paralysis on a series of aggressive actions taken by law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies.
Riaz’s statement comes just days before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is scheduled to auction multiple high-profile properties belonging to him on August 7, 2025, as part of ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and illegal land acquisitions.
Bahria Town Operations “Severely Paralyzed”
In his social media post, Malik Riaz painted a grim picture of the situation faced by one of Pakistan’s largest real estate empires.
“The situation has reached a point where we are being forced to completely shut down all Bahria Town activities across Pakistan,” he wrote.
Riaz cited a series of enforcement actions as the root cause of the crisis. These include:
- The arrest of dozens of Bahria Town employees
- Freezing of all company bank accounts
- Seizure of staff vehicles and operational equipment
These measures, according to Riaz, have completely crippled the company’s ability to function, leading to severe cash flow problems and operational paralysis.
“Impossible to Pay Salaries or Deliver Services,” Says Riaz
Malik Riaz emphasized that the financial strain has made it virtually impossible to continue providing services to Bahria Town residents or to pay thousands of employees across the country.
“Our cash flow has been completely destroyed. It has become impossible to provide daily services, and we are unable to pay the salaries of our tens of thousands of staff,” he lamented.
He further warned that while the company is trying to hold on, the situation is deteriorating rapidly:
“We are certainly one step behind this last step [closure], but the situation on the ground is getting worse by the minute.”
NAB Announces Auction of Malik Riaz Properties
Earlier in the day, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) issued a public notice confirming that several high-value properties linked to Malik Riaz will be auctioned on August 7, 2025, as part of an ongoing probe into allegations of money laundering, illegal land transfers, and embezzlement.
According to the NAB notice, properties in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad—valued at billions of rupees—are up for grabs. The agency has invited investors and the general public to participate in the auction, which will be conducted under judicial supervision.
NAB claims that these properties were acquired through illegal means and that auctioning them will help recover billions in looted national wealth.
Political Undertones? Riaz Implies Victimization
While Riaz did not explicitly accuse any political party or individual, his tone hinted at perceived victimization. His statement did not address the allegations leveled against him, but instead focused on what he described as the “injustice and destruction of livelihoods” caused by the ongoing crackdown.

The tycoon has long been a controversial figure in Pakistan’s business and political landscape, often accused of using his wealth and influence to secure land and push through projects despite legal or environmental concerns. Critics argue that the NAB’s actions are justified, while supporters of Riaz claim the campaign is politically motivated.
Impact on Residents and the Real Estate Sector
The warning of a potential shutdown has triggered panic among residents and investors associated with Bahria Town Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and other smaller projects. The vast real estate development houses hundreds of thousands of families and employs tens of thousands more in construction, security, administration, and maintenance services.
Residents have begun expressing concern over what a total shutdown might mean for water supply, electricity, waste management, and security services—all of which are provided by Bahria’s internal systems and not by municipal authorities.
Analysts warn that a complete halt in operations could have a ripple effect on Pakistan’s real estate sector, already reeling from economic instability and policy uncertainty.
Looking Ahead: Legal Challenges and Uncertain Future
The future of Bahria Town now hangs in the balance as legal proceedings against Malik Riaz and his vast real estate empire gain momentum. The upcoming property auction on August 7 may serve as a key indicator of how aggressively the state intends to pursue the case.
While Riaz has historically managed to survive several political and legal storms, this current phase appears to be the most critical yet in his decades-long career.
